Genomic Wellness PLUS Test – (One Saliva Kit) Either OG510 or OC100
This test analyzes up to 160 DNA changes. It is the most affordable, up-to-date, and comprehensive analysis available, providing action steps to help practitioners create personalized wellness programs for their clients.
Informed Consent for Apolipoprotein E (APOE) Genetic Testing
The practitioner must discuss lipid profiling with the patient. The patient can choose to consent or not consent to having their APOE genotype reported.
The patient understands that their saliva sample will be used to create a Genomic Wellness Report, which includes an analysis of the APOE gene. While the APOE gene can affect the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD), it is not a diagnostic or reliable predictor for AD.
Key Points Explained to the Patient:
ApoE genotyping can help guide lipid treatment, especially for high cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Statins are usually the preferred treatment to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the response to these drugs can vary widely and is partly influenced by the ApoE genotype.
People with the ApoE ε4 allele may respond less effectively to statins compared to those with the ApoE ε2 allele and may need adjustments to their treatment plans. A low-fat diet and statin drugs are the preferred methods for lowering lipid levels. ApoE genotyping provides additional information to guide treatment.
